Our Ambassadors

These birds are not adoptable, they are permanent residents at Nana & Papas Nest.

While serving as ambassadors, they attend various events throughout the year, helping to educate both children and adults about responsible parrot care. In some cases, it’s the very first time someone has ever held a parrot, making it a truly memorable experience.

Meet Monkey

Monkey is a Senegal parrot with an unknown hatch date. Sex unknown, although, we think Monkey is a boy, at least that is what we were told. Monkey is considered a geriatric.

As you see in the before and after pictures of Monkey, he came to us looking really rough.  It’s amazing how far he has come during since he has been with us, from being a pluckier to being fully feathered. Proper care and diet makes a huge difference in the health of a bird.

Meet Sam

Sam is a Green Eclectus who came to Nana & Papas Nest in 2012. While much of his early history is unknown, we do know that before arriving he was fed a diet of people food and junk food. Combined with stress, this led Sam to over-preen and pull out his feathers to the point that they will not grow
back.

Despite everything he has been through, Sam’s personality truly shines. He is a resilient, engaging bird with a presence that captures hearts wherever he goes. As one of our Ambassador Birds, Sam plays an important role in educating the public about the critical importance of proper nutrition and how a bird’s
environment can greatly impact both physical and emotional well-being.

Sam’s story is a powerful reminder that with care, understanding, and the right support, parrots can thrive—even after a difficult past.

Meet Cuddles

Cuddles is a beautiful Moluccan Cockatoo who joined Nana & Papa’s Nest in 2024. His journey to us is both heartbreaking and inspiring. After his previous home was tragically lost in a house
fire, Cuddles was surrendered to a wildlife rescue by his loving owner, who wanted to ensure he received the care he needed. The rescue then reached out to us for help.

When Cuddles arrived, he was covered in soot and struggling with feather plucking on his chest. It took several soothing baths to restore his bright, peachy feathers and multiple vet visits to
address his plucking issues. Today, Cuddles wears a special “sock” to protect his feathers and receives monthly treatments to keep him healthy and comfortable. Because of his ongoing care needs, Cuddles will remain a lifelong resident at Nana & Papa’s Nest, where he serves as one of our Ambassador Birds. He helps educate both children and adults about parrot care, rehabilitation, and responsible ownership. Cuddles is a fan favorite at events—he loves attention, adores meeting new people, and will happily step up for almost anyone. His gentle spirit and resilience make him a wonderful example of hope and healing. As a lifelong resident at Nana & Papa’s Nest — he will be surrounded by love, attention, and plenty of head scratches. 💕

Our Residents

Resident Birds are parrots who come to Nana & Papas Nest and, sadly, are unable to be adopted. This can be due to a variety of reasons. Most often, it is because of medical issues; other times, it may be the result of behavioral challenges caused by improper care in previous homes.

These birds have found their forever home at the Nest. They are cherished by our staff and deeply loved by everyone who visits, receiving the care, patience, and compassion they deserve every day.

Meet Georgie

Georgie is a Black-headed Caique who came to Nana & Papas Nest in 2021. He spent the first 6½ years of his life in one loving home before his family made the difficult decision to rehome
him due to a military relocation out west.

This happy, energetic boy has a wonderful and varied vocabulary. Georgie loves to say “Hello Georgie,” “Good Morning Georgie,” “I love you Georgie,” and “Good Boy.” His cheerful chatter perfectly matches his upbeat personality.

Georgie does have a medical condition involving the air sacs on the right side of his chest. When he becomes excited, they can swell, so it’s important that his environment stays calm and attentive to his needs.

Full of life and affection, Georgie’s favorite thing is simply being taken out and spending quiet
time with someone who will sit with him and enjoy his company. He’s a special boy with a big heart, and we’re honored to give him the care and love he deserves at the Nest.

Meet Scoop!

Scoop is a resilient Quaker parrot who came to Nana & Papas Nest in 2021. In his previous home, multiple birds were housed together, and during an unfortunate accident, another bird
escaped its cage and bit off Scoop’s upper beak. While he has fully healed, his upper beak will never grow back, meaning Scoop requires a special diet tailored to his needs.

Don’t let his missing beak fool you, though—Scoop is full of life! He happily plays with his toys and bounces around his cage with endless energy, proving every day that his spirit is stronger than his challenges.

Meet Murdock!

Murdock is a Goffin Cockatoo who joined Nana & Papa’s Nest in 2024. His exact age is unknown, and his story is one of many homes—our rescue is his fifth. His previous home was involved in a fire caused by the owner’s actions, and when Murdock arrived, he was suffering from a chest wound and had begun to self-mutilate due to over-preening.

To help him heal safely and prevent further plucking or reopening the wound, Murdock now wears a special protective bib. Despite everything he has been through, his spirit is bright and resilient. Every morning when we walk into the Welcome Center, we’re greeted by his cheerful “Murdock!” and “What you doing?”

Murdock now has his forever home here, where he will be cared for and loved by our staff for the rest of his life.
